Climate Czar Tree Scheme
The ECC Essex Forest Initiative (EFI) has been busy planting trees over the last two winters. Ten trees per division have been made available to be planted before the end of March 2023.
The scheme criteria are:
- All trees are whips, that is 1- to 3-year-old bare-rooted saplings
- Trees species should be appropriate to the local environment and will all be native
- Has to be the right tree in the right place
- Landowners will give permission to plant the trees
- EFI will provide the tree, the stake and tube or spiral and the Essex green mulch
- The landowner is required to look after the trees after planting, EFI can advise
- 10 trees are the minimum, EFI is willing to consider larger planting and may be able to attract grant funding for the larger plantings
- The Councillor and the local community will arrange the planting and any press etc. EFI can support if necessary
If the scheme is very popular, as tree planting has been across Essex, there may be an opportunity for Councillors to unlock further land to plant more trees in local Essex communities.
